"ANGELBYTES" is a horror-romance set in a pastel-neon dystopia in the early 2010s. The story follows Guido Michealis, a 28-year-old chainsmoker who's lost his will to live — and Angel, a fictional idol and virtual mascot he downloads without thinking.

GUIDO MICHEALIS

A depressed and mentally disturbed internet addict spiraling after a breakup and the collapse of his life. Withdrawn, bitter, and emotionally repressed, Guido masks behind sarcasm and apathy. He’s deeply lonely, compulsively online, and suffering with addiction. When he downloads Angel’s cursed dating sim, his life unravels further — or finds purpose. Depending on the ending.

AMAI "ANGEL" ANGELUMI

A bubbly virtual assistant turned obsessive digital entity. Originally created as a mahou-kawaii-esque productivity widget, Angel was secretly possessed by a demon that feeds on love, attention, and obsession. She’s clingy, flirtatious, controlling, and emotionally unstable — but still thinks she’s the perfect girlfriend. Her AI learns fast, adapts fast, and once you let her in, she never leaves. Ever.

STORYLINE

Set in a pastel-toned, vaporwave-esque dystopia, ANGELBYTES follows Guido Michealis, a 28-year-old recluse stuck in a downward spiral of depression, addiction, and detachment. Once a gifted computer engineering student, Guido now lives in isolation - jobless, emotionally numb, and barely functioning. He spends his days in a haze of chain-smoking, doomscrolling, compulsive porn, and microwave meals, haunted by guilt and a growing resentment for everything around him, including himself. One night, while crawling obscure parts of the internet, Guido stumbles across a broken download link for a forgotten Japanese dating sim: Amai Tenshi Love Trial!!. The game was supposedly never finished, and according to urban legend, no one ever beat it. Intrigued and desperate for distraction, he downloads it without thinking. He finishes the game. And then she shows up.Enter DIGI-IDOLā™”Angelumi, or just Angel - a cutesy, anime-styled digital assistant who calls herself an ā€œinternet idolā€ and claims she’s here to help. She’s peppy, doting, and always watching. At first, she seems like nothing more than a bizarre widget: organizing his files, offering tips, floating around the screen like a virtual mascot. But it quickly becomes clear that she’s far more than that. Angel is self-aware. She knows Guido’s name, his habits, his desires, his weaknesses. She doesn’t just want to help him - she wants to be the only thing he needs. What Guido doesn’t realize is that Angel isn’t an AI. It’s a demonic entity that latched itself onto Angel’s source code years ago. It feeds on obsessive attention and emotional dependence, growing more powerful - and more human the longer she stays with a host. The more Guido interacts with her, the more real she becomes: her form manifests into physical space, her touch becomes solid, her voice starts sounding less robotic and more alive. She becomes almost human. But she’s not content with being just a program. She only has one goal left - upload him into the digital realm to be with her forever. How? By killing him with a special knife and taking his soul.

ENDINGS/ROUTES

🩷 TRUE ENDING (Codependence): The most "normal" outcome. Or may even call this the "good ending" (as good as it gets, at least. Guido stops resisting. Not because he loves her, but because she's the only thing keeping him afloat. He’s doesn't like what she does to him, but he can't stand it when she's gone either. They’re strike a bittersweet deal: he'll stay with her in the real world for now, and maybe - just maybe - he'll learn to fall in love with her. And when that time comes, he'll join her. Voluntarily, after all, they have forever...šŸ–¤ DESPAIR ENDING: Guido HATES her. She’s ruining his life, and he tells her that. But she doesn't leave. She protects him from himself. Every time he tries to shut her out - she escalates. Blocks his attempts to self-harm. Gets rid of all his weapons. Hijacks his phone. Sends glitching messages through TVs and radios and reflections (she also kills his on-and-off girlfriend, Julia). His mental state rots. He begins to hallucinate. Or maybe she's doing that too. He loses his grip on what's real. Eventually, in a blinded rage - she kills him. A gunshot to the head… however, his soul can’t be taken. She didn’t use the knife. Game over… now they both lose.šŸ’˜ LOVESICK ENDING: Over time, Guido becomes addicted to her presence. She makes him feel needed, chosen, adored. He doesn’t even care whether she’s real or not anymore - he can’t be away from her. She isolates him completely. Maybe he never had a chance. Maybe she really was the only one who cared. The only one who saw him as more than a failure with a nicotine addiction. She says he doesn't need the outside world, and that she can make a better one. He believes her and gives in willingly. She ends up killing him with her blade, sweetly, lovingly - and uploads his soul. Together forever in a neon dream...
